KASHRUT INFORMATION

At Fuchs Mizrachi School, all food served is Kosher to the strict standards of our Orthodox community. All food served must be from sealed packages or sealed from a Kosher caterer or restaurant. Everything requires an acceptable heksher (sign of Kosher supervision).

Here are samples of heksherim (Kosher signs) we use at Fuchs Mizrachi School.

(Please remember that there are hundreds of heksherim in the world...These are only samples of heksherim we recommend. We have selected them because we know them to be reliable and they are found on many products in the Cleveland area. If you have questions about a sign not on this list, check with your local Orthodox Rabbi as it may be perfectly acceptable.)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1) A plain "K," as it cannot be copyrighted, does not necessarily mean something is Kosher.
2) Our Mara D'Atra, HaRav Moshe Granatstein, has ruled that fruit juices should have reliable Kosher supervision.  When in doubt, the list of the Kashrut Department of the Chicago Rabbinical Council should be consulted.  A list of some of the acceptable products are HERE.  Other products with the hashgachot noted above are also acceptable.
3) Any product containing grape juice DOES require Kosher supervision.
4) Raw, uncut fruits and vegetables are Kosher.
5) Rav Granatstein has ruled that Israeli fruit and vegetables from Israel grown during the shmitta year under the "heter mechira" (which includes those exported to the U.S.) are permitted.  As Rav Shlomo Aviner points out, buying these fruits strengthens Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel (and is, he says, preferred over buying non-Israeli fruit, even grown by allies of Israel).

6) Food from packages already opened or cooked at home may not be served at Fuchs Mizrachi School. However, for their OWN lunches/snacks, students may bring opened or pre-cooked Kosher items.
7) All meat served at Fuchs Mizrachi School must be "Glatt Kosher."
